Adaptive Snowboard Certification
Below is listed the certification process for each level. For more information, you may consult the AASI Adaptive Snowboard National Standards.
Level 1 Certification Process
- Become a member of PSIA/AASI.
- Earn the Snowboard Level 1 Certification.
- Complete the Adaptive Snowboard Level 1 Take Home Workbook and bring it with you to your exam.
- Attend the one-day, on-snow exam:
You will be graded on your VI/COG adaptive snowboard teaching at a L1 standard This will include on-snow assessment of teaching and riding skills, and an interview to assess your general knowledge.
Level 2 Certification Process
- Obtain the Level 1 Adaptive Snowboard Certification and the Level 2 Snowboard Certification.
- Attend the two-day, on-snow exam:
This exam will focus on all three modules; these teaching assessment days will include on-snow assessment of teaching and riding skills, a ride the equipment segment, and an interview to assess general knowledge.
The modules are: Stand Up, Sit Down, and VI/ID.
Level 3 Certification Process
This event is offered when demand warrants; there is a two-person minimum.
- Obtain the Level 2 Adaptive Snowboard Certification and the Level 3 Snowboard Certification.
- Complete 24 hours of practice riding in the adaptive equipment at your home resort, including 8 hours each of mono skiing and bi skiing and 4 hours each of Rider Bar/1&2 outrigger practice. All hours must be documented on the Ski/Ride the Equipment Log, signed by your Ski School Director, and turned in to the Division Office with your event registration form two weeks prior to your first assessment day.
- Take and pass the comprehensive Level 3 Exam containing elements of all THREE modules. These teaching assessment days will include on-snow assessment of teaching and riding skills and an interview to assess general knowledge.
The modules are: Stand Up, Sit Down, and VI/ID.
