Scotty grew up in Nashville, TN, where he played in a 50 piece ‘Guitar Band,’ then the largest in the country. After uprooting for a family move to Utah, he attended Dartmouth College, famed for its pioneering role in skiing, and began teaching Telemark and Cross Country skiing in his junior year.
He’s never looked back (sometimes to the chagrin of his parents) ever teaching a different mix of Alpine, Tele, XC and Backcountry at Targhee, Solitude, Jackson and now Snow King Mountain Resort, where he heads up the Mountain Sports School. A DECL for Tele since ’94, he’s garnered Level III’s in Cross Country, Backcountry and Alpine, and served on the PSIA Nordic Team from 2000 to the present, with his second term as Coach ending in 2016.
Scotty spends his summers guiding for Exum Mountain Guides, teaching climbing and leading climbs up the Grand Teton and other peaks in the Tetons and nearby ranges.
