November 2018

Ed College: Grand Targhee, December 15-16

Ed College is a great way to kick-start your season by reviewing skills or picking up something new. Clinics are offered in every downhill discipline (Snowboarders, that includes you!), and a variety of topics. Have you ever wanted to learn race techniques, or step into an Adaptive clinic? Check out the offerings, get out on the hill and get your CEUs done early.

This year Ed College moves North! We look forward to early snow and new adventures, and we expect to see some new faces along with the regulars. Grand Targhee is offering special lodging deals for attendees. Registration and the promotional code (with a link to the Targehee lodging site) are available on the event page.

Scholarship Spotlight

by Stephen Neiner, 2017-18 scholarship recipient

The Snowsports Instructor Representative Committee, or SIRC, is responsible for handling applications for the Division Scholarship Program and deciding which applications will be awarded scholarships. I was fortunate enough to be awarded one of these scholarships for the 2017-2018 season and attended an Alpine Level 2 Prep Camp this past January at Solitude. I am pleased to say that I passed my Level 2 Alpine Exam, and the Alpine Level 2 Prep Camp was a big part of my success. More importantly though, I am grateful for the journey through a process in not only becoming a better skier and ski instructor, but growing as an individual in a community of passionate people so willing to share the experience. (That's me in red with my kids/former ski students).

The deadline for the first round of scholarships is approaching. Get your application in by November 16. Find out more on our website.

New Alpine Devo Squad Process

The Devo Squad process is designed to select a group of instructors capable of completing a long-term, in-depth training process. There are four stages, beginning with a one day selection event. This season you can choose January 24 at Jackson Hole or February 27 at Alta.

Once accepted into the Devo Squad, participants identify a mentor and follow a training pathway that leads to a final assessment within two years. The training fee is $160. If you are interested in Devo Squad, find out more on the information page.
